While it may seem impossible to quantify the most beautiful cities in the world, Mental Floss shared an article naming 24 gorgeous cities.
According to the article, these 24 cities were chosen “by comparing a bunch of length and width measurements of a visual image to determine how close its proportions come to the Golden Ratio: one to roughly 1.618.”
It is claimed that humans are partial to things that closely reflect this ratio, including other people, plants, dogs, and cats.
Of course, rating cities in this same way is a bit more complicated.
Analysts from Online Mortgage Advisor decided to focus on architecture in their study. They mined Google Street View footage from cities all around the world. They looked at residential streets and approximately 2,400 iconic buildings.
After mining all the footage, “they calculated the proportions of all those edifices to find out how closely each adhered to the Golden Ratio.”
“The higher the score, the closer the city’s buildings are on average to matching the Golden Ratio,” researchers wrote.
Without further ado, here are the top 24 most beautiful cities in the world.
