EDITOR’S CHOICE: GAME OF THE SHOW
Moss was glossed over quickly during the PS VR section of the Playstation Press Conference, but don’t make the same mistake that Sony and we did. We met up with the developers of Moss after they emailed a 5th time asking for us to see them and finally we accepted.
Made by freshman developer Polyarch, Moss is a VR game unlike any other and the first real good reason to buy in on PS VR. You are a normal sized being looking in on the mouse sized adventure of Quill, an adorable mouse adventurer on a quest. You are physically in this world, able to brush up against plants, knock over piles of stone and make ripples in the water. At the same time you also control Quill, navigating her like any normal 3rd person action game.
The real special nature of Moss is apparent when wearing the headset and difficult to describe without it. Being in this cutesy world is entirely different in VR than can be shown on your screen now. If you have not played VR before it may not click but unlike 3D movies and TV the 3D in VR is not just a depth effect. Every object looks like an object in your real world, including Quill who frequently looks and gestures to you and it is charming as fuck to have a little mouse friend thank you for solving a puzzle with a little tiny mouse sized curtsy.
Moss comes out later this year on PS VR.
