Can you imagine your whole world burning down, and you have no choice but to evacuate and you’re forced to leave your pet behind? Scary thought, isn’t it? Sadly though, this is more than a thought for a lot of Fort McMurray residents; it’s a reality. There’s countless stories all over social media of owners asking firefighters, RCMP, local shelters and volunteers who are still on the ground, fighting the fires, to find their pets. Thankfully enough, there’s a concerted effort going on to rescue and return pets to their evacuated owners.
With that in mind, those helping with the evacuation are now putting efforts in place to avoid the separation of owner and beloved pet. Canadian airlines WestJet and Canada North are now allowing you to evacuate your pet with you, and take them on the plane, and they get to ride coach, instead of being cooped up in crates.
Lucky for us, a flight attendant from Canada North Airlines, named Wanda Murray, shared some photos on Facebook of animals and their owners flying to safety and it just gives you all the warm fuzzies and feelings.
We hope that all the animals get reunited with their owners soon, ’cause this is a scary time for everyone.
