Whether you agree or not, Phil Kessel is one hell of a stand up guy. He works hard, he’s talented and he’s just like us; goofy, emotional and human, which what makes his time in Toronto all the more tragic. Can you imagine the career he might have had if the Leaf powers-that-be surrounded him with talent, and not duds? Toronto could have legitimately had a crack at the cup. Instead, he was booed out of town and ended up with the best season of his career in Pittsburgh.
But despite all that, he’s got his heart in the right place. Can you guess what he did with his day with the Cup? That’s right, he brought it to Toronto and visited Sick Kids hospital.
F*ck… what a genuinely nice guy. He didn’t have to come, but he did. The best part is that no media was invited; it wasn’t about publicity or making a media spectacle, but about putting smiles back where they belong!
