Photographer Russell Lee stumbled upon a small alcoholic retreat called Danos’ Nightclub where he captured rice farmers, oyster fishermen, and other blue collar folks enjoying a Friday night out just in time for Danos’ free weekly crab boil. And if I’m not too hazy on my history, I understand that the Great Depression was…well, depressing. So it warms my heart to see that even in dark times during our country’s past that the fine folks liked to get out, eat, drink, and cut a rug to blow off some steam. So let your mind wander, and hear the sound of an old-timey tune played on a fuzzy record, and metaphorically raise a glass (or literally if you prefer) to a generation from not so long ago.
