But without a doubt, the greatest Winter Olympics (or Summer for that matter) moment was Steven Bradbury’s incredibly lucky and completely unexpected win in short track speed skating at the Salt Lake City 2002 games, becoming Australia’s first Winter Olympics gold medalist. As crazy as it was that a guy from a city with tropical weather would be competing in skating and that with the odds stacked against him, he would win the gold medal in the most unlikely of circumstances, the struggles he overcame on the long road to that race are perhaps reasons why the Universe decided to perfectly align for him on that one fateful day.
