A Ghanian soccer player must be answering some very awkward questions at home after accidentally thanking both his wife AND girlfriend in a post-match interview about his two-goal performance for the Free State Stars in their 2-2 tie against Ajax Cape Town in the South African Premier Division.
In the interview, which you can watch in all its awkward entirety here, Anas appeared to be recycling all the standard platitudes which are synonymous with the often fruitless athlete interview, until he appeared to thank one person too many:
“Firstly I appreciate my fans,” Mohammed Anas began, “and my wife and my girlfriend.”
Realising his (honest?) mistake, Anas tried to backtrack with impressive incredulity.
“I mean my wife, sorry for saying, I’m so sorry, my wife,” he said. “I love you so much. I love you so much from my heart.”
Sure sounds like a guy who has been caught with his pants/shorts down!
The Internet machine was quick jump on his Freudian slip and, as the Internet tends to do, only make things worse for the serial scorer.
