Last night, I received an email from a Chiver in Hammerfest, Norway, the northernmost city in the world. Zbigniew Wantuch was a college graduate with a job at a posh advertising company in Sweden, a girlfriend, a nice flat, and a car. But there was no adventure in his new, safe life. So one day he woke up, left it all except the girlfriend, he brought her), and went to Norway.
Zbigniew got a job as a caretaker at a local campsite and started taking pictures. He wanted to share some of them with the Chivers today and see if there were any other Chivers around in Hammerfest or any of the beautiful surrounding islands, Kvaløya, Sørøya, and Seiland. If so, Hilsen fra Hammerfest!
Zbigniew's photo site here.

where is the pic of the GF?
Awesome pictures…
Zbychu, świetne zdjęcia.
I was in Hammerfest in 97 and there were reindeer walking in the streets
Awesome ! Thanks for sharing those pics
beautiful country, I would love to go there
Such a great post! Wonderful pictures!!
The northernmost permanent settlement is actually CFB Alert http://g.co/maps/xkvjv. So if any of the Canadian soldiers stationed their keep warm with the chive they would be the northernmost. Still looks like a nice place to get away too.
If I get the urge to drop my safe life and seek adventure, I'm thinking something more in the tropical island paradise line.
great to hear of someone actually chasing adventure instead of the $
Cool beans
Hi. This is me – Zbigniew
Thanks so much for posting my photos, and for your feedback guys!
I just wanted to add, that most of the pictures posted here, are AVAILABLE AS WALLPAPERS on my website: zbigniewwantuch.com. Please help yourself!
It's true that there are people who live farther north than Hammerfest, but according to a Norwegian definition of a town (nor. "by"), there must be more than 5000 people in settlement (and probably a church), to call it a town.
You can read about this here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hammerfest in "geography" section.
When I was in Longyearbyen last time, I counted only around 1500 people
Remember that not all the photos here are from Hammerfest. The one with a yellow buildings next to harbour is Alesund (we lived there before).
Anyway – thanks so much for posting this!
Zbigniew
P.S. I'm Polish, not Swedish
