The Northernmost Chiver in the world (14 HQ Photos)

Last night, I received an email from a Chiver in Hammerfest, Norway, the northernmost city in the world. Zbigniew Wantuch was a college graduate with a job at a posh advertising company in Sweden, a girlfriend, a nice flat, and a car. But there was no adventure in his new, safe life. So one day he woke up, left it all except the girlfriend, he brought her), and went to Norway.

Zbigniew got a job as a caretaker at a local campsite and started taking pictures. He wanted to share some of them with the Chivers today and see if there were any other Chivers around in Hammerfest or any of the beautiful surrounding islands, Kvaløya, Sørøya, and Seiland. If so, Hilsen fra Hammerfest!

  • Cedrik

Awesome!! Now I know that Canada is not the worst place to live during winter!

    • Jo-hagla

Canada get much colder, consider that you get inland weather, Norway is really quiet mild compared to the northern parts or even middle parts, tis all depends were you stay like; Edmonton, Alberta has low recorded of -40C (-13 average in January) while Hammerfest has -20C (-7 average in January)

Central Canada do also get better summers

      • Hoovus

Edmonton reached -58C two years ago.

        • Malkintosh22

Yeah, Calgary was right up there too. We were forbidden to go outside.

      • Andrew

Edmonton was recorded the second coldest place on earth at -56 C Dec. 12/ 2009

    • Brando

I live in Edmonton. It does get damn cold but I'm proud to say that we are tough enough to brave it! 🙂

Nah – its just the worst place to live year-round.

Canucks are like LG – they both suck wang and lick balls.

Hmm weird I thought svalbard norway was the norther most city in the world……or is that just a settlement

  • FraOslo

Beautiful- but northernmost town? What of Longyearbyen on Svalbard?

    • Professorvan

Agreed. Beautiful place and awesome pics, but Hammerfest is like #11 in Northernmost towns, even after Barrow, Alaska

    • Yessirr

      Bless you.

    • ThatNorwegianDude

It were a long time ago, and it's a status that have just for some reason lingered on. But he says he live in hammerfest but posts 2 pictures of Aalesund ? that it WAAAY to the south ? Anywho, My mum is actually from a small village about two hours north-west from hammerfest, one of the northernmost parts of mainland Norway ^^

  • jdfish2279

If it wasnt for my extreme dislike of snow, this might be a place Id like to live. #7

  • jrey81

    #12 & #13 breathtaking… chive, please make this man a KC & CO hoody!

  • CalAb13

    #12 #13 #14 Fantastic!

But I have to agree, not the Northernmost town according to Wiki

    Longyearbyen, Svalbard, Norway 2,075 78°13′N 15°33′E
    Qaanaaq, Greenland, Denmark 631 77°29′N 69°20′W
    Upernavik, Greenland, Denmark 1,182 72°47′N 56°09′W
    Khatanga, Russia 3,000 71°58′N 102°28′E
    Tiksi, Russia 5,427 71°39′N 128°48′E
    Belushya Guba, Russia 2,795 71°33′N 52°19′E
    Barrow, Alaska, USA 4,683 71°18′N 156°44′W
    Honningsvåg, Norway 2,375 70°58′N 25°58′E
    Berlevåg, Norway 1,100 70°51′N 29°05′E
    Uummannaq, Greenland, Denmark 1,352 70°40′N 52°07′W
    Hammerfest, Norway 6,766 70°39′N 23°41′E

But still might be our Northernmost Chiver!

    • leon

      Ny Ålesund has internet

    • Mr. H

      relax dwight..

    • Leonel_LyL

Yeah, because everything on wikipedia is correct.

      • CalAb13

Did I say that? Yes a lot of stuff on Wiki has to be taken a grain of salt but when it comes to things that include names of places and they give the actual latitudes and longitudes Im pretty sure you can trust em

    • ThatNorwegianDude

Still funny though that out of the 11 most northern city's in the world Norway's got 4 of them ^^ I live on the complete opposite side of Norway, Almost as south as you can come 😛

    • A BiPolar Guy

northernmost city and northernmost village/habitation aren't necessarily the same thing. Begin argument about of the definition of city in 3, 2, 1…
