Insane artwork made from my old nemesis — books (35 Photos)

I never learned how to read, you see, only write. I honestly have no idea what I’m typing which I think is why my writing is so spontaneous, sexually charged, and full of errors.

  • Myst

Wow my dad would spaz something fierce but #21 #30 #33 are incredible

  • AeroS

It's unfortunate that The 2 books that are actually identified are bibles and both are portrayed as weapons. Way to perpetuate the popular misconceptions of destruction about a religion based on salvation. Call it art but it's just willful ignorance:( Still love thechive though. KCCO

    • ganslaxer

The bible is a weapon…mind control

    • FoolOfATook

I took the one shaped like a grenade to be the Holy Hand Grenade from Monty Python and The Holy Grail.

    • Notknowing

The bible is some book written by some clown, a few hundred years after the (so called) fact.

      • Kevin Mills

correction, it was written by many many clowns.

    • AdonisM

The ideals of love and salvation represented by the bible are clear and universally excepted, and are amazing. However, the fact that so much destruction and hatred in this world is perpetrated in the name of religion is undeniable. I believe that this message is an important one to hear as it has the power to enlighten us to the facets of our own spirituality, better appreciate the good in religion, and grow out of these negative habits. Nothing ever went away by ignoring it. Call it willful ignorance, but art it what moves us mentally and spiritually, even if we don't like the message.

      • Merica!

Easy there! You might give someone a brain anhuerism! And i know thats spelled wrong…. just dont shive a git. anyhow… agreed.

      • Kevin Mills

agreed, you dont experience the same feeling by making a grenade shaped Hank the cowdog book

    • gnocco

It promotes separatism, which drives conflict

    • Bender

I've said it once I'll say it again,
if you could reason with a religious person there would be no religion.

      • JAFitC

You exhibit the fallacy of assuming that anyone disagreeing with you must not have reasoned their way to their position. Reason leads people to many conclusions, including religious ones. The mere fact that someone disagrees with you does not make him or her unreasonable; to believe otherwise is unreasonable.

        • Mats Paasche

A lot of level headed people would argue that believing in a talking snake, waterwalking, teleporting, ressurection and so on, all on the word of a council of greedy and fallible men commissioned by a power hungry emperor 1700 years ago is evidence of being unreasonable at the very least. Spirituality is one thing (that I also disagree with) but saying that the bible is the literal word of God and an accurate historical representation of the depicted time periods is just plain crazy. And adversely assigning any spiritual value to the bible while not believing the above is just fooling yourself for the sake of petty comfort.

      • StillSad

Issac Newton would have found that hilarious.

    • hamtime

I interpreted #27 quite differently. It brought to mind some washed-up guy in a shitty hotel room. He reaches into the bedside table and what does he find – something to do himself in with. … left by the Gideons.

Clever imagery I thought. Then again, though I am a believer, I'm not terribly fond of organized religion so I'm open to this imagery – negative or otherwise.

  • Lisa

#7 & #15 remind me of Indian Jones. I'd like to know how they make these. I'm thinking a Dremel and a vice press perhaps?

    • Notknowing

Indian??? ……or a shit load of glue & a dremel.

  • James

  • tv_paul

    #26 Facebook?

    • Notknowing

    • MathNerd

[Insert Religion] was the worst [Insert Holy War].

    • Trev

So why is the Koran not pictured here. More have died because if it than any other book

      • Tim

Religion is like toilet paper, doesn't matter if the roll is over the top, or under…still gonna be shitty.

  • Sade

Hermione wouldn't be too happy about this post but #29 is awesome.

  • LIJay

I really wish I had the patience to do something like this. These are incredible.

  • Alex

People are awesome, I can't believe some have so much talent. I'd love to have one like #7, #15, or #29 at home.

  • Elizabeth Davis

#32 isn't actually made out of a book. It's a giant metal sculpture. But I guess the book being the centerpiece counts? Idk. It's still pretty neat seeing it in person. It takes up a big round room and you have to walk against the walls not to touch the wings.

  • Meh

What did books do to you to make them your nemesis?!?

  • bob

    #16 Too True…
    #22 #26 Bad ASS!!!

  • Bob

#16…I don't normally comment on these art posts, but this is too perfect.

  • Bradyized

#16 The Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch?

    • Mr_Taco

Count thou to three and lobbeth thou, thine holy hand grenade.

  • Cstop

So if I sold my textbook back like this would I get more back instead of a punch to the throat….

    • Seanypat

Aye, you were lucky to get a punch in the throat. I had to settle for sliced in half with a dull butter knife while singing "God Save the Queen."

  • Carver

    #15 #7 amazing.

  • Brian

Some of these are really awesome #7 ftw

  • GregoryTH

I can't even imagine the time and effort that went into these…truly original and ass-kicking artwork!!
