What BP could have bought instead (15 Photos)

The following is everything BP could have purchased with the money they lost if they hadn't accidentally... the Gulf of Mexico.
Special thanks to Visual Economics for putting this together.

I was wondering why some were cheaper than others and then realized you were adding them all up. That is just disgusting. And here I am struggling with a couple hundred dollars here and there.

    • QWERTY

Yeah…we could have used those ice cream sanwiches, The book as means of entretainment, the condoms, the ipads, and the clothing…although i wouldn't wear the last one…

      • duhhh

  • Gutterville

Nothing says national unity like a nation-wide wolf pack, whether that's a good thing or not…

Just think, they lost $100,000,000.00 USD from one leaking well. This doesn't count any of the other drilling sites they have in the gulf or anywhere else in the world. Just try to wrap your brain around exactly how much money the oil companies make every single day.

While we're on the topic, State Farm has been pushing that they have 40 million customers. At $100 per month on average, that would mean they are bringing in $4 billion a month in insurance payments. Insane how far apart the top and the bottom of the economy are, isn't it?

    • Nicnac

$100/month on average?!? What insurance do YOU have? The replacement organs plan?

Anyway, they may be 'bringing in' billions a month. How much are they sending out? How big are their costs?

      • http://intensedebate.com/profiles/roflcentral Beau

State farm insures not just health, but businesses, farms, vehicles, renters, homeowners, etc.

Some businesses can pay thousands in insurance costs each month alone.

Mffpphple? The wife and I have had one accident each in the last 7 years and we live in Southeast Florida and we pay two hundred and change a month for the bare minimum auto insurance. And a lot more than that for our health coverage. OTOH the homeowner's probably isn't too bad since we're not on a flood plain. The flood insurance is a separate policy anyway, sigh.

  • I. P. Freely.

I don't understand why BP is taking the blame for this when they didn't own or even run the rig.

    • northerner

They, or whoever was responsible for running the day to day operations of the rig have been proved (at least according to the media stories) to have cut corners, turned off safety devices/sirens, etc., that led to the failure…they bleeped up, big time…wish it weren't so…

  • fourTWOzero

what is funny though….after all that money and oil lost in the gulf…i have yet to see the gas prices go up like they did significantly in the past…when there was no "oil shortages" or anything else directly affecting oil production….fucking oil companies!!

  • Dave

If the last picture is right, then they could have even paid Dr. Evil's ransom money.
    100… billion… dawlers, muhahahaha.

  • FTW

    Epic post.
LMAO at the 2nd howling wolves T-shirt for Idaho xD

  • Ross

no one seems to know this but BP doesn’t own the rig that exploded. they just buy all the crude oil that is produced from them. with some really quick searching i found http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/business/industry_sectors/natural_resources/article7114087.ece explaining who owns it, who made the faulty blow out preventer, and who was warned. BP has put many of the local fisherman on their payroll with the job of not fishing for fish but deploying skimmers. But BP is getting crucified over the spill. Also the moratorium on drilling was the stupidest thing any president could have ever done. iam even going to say its worse then going to the Iraq war. we have already lost several deep water drilling rigs that have now gone to Brazil. when the moratorium was overturned it was stated that that was only their first try to end drilling. Cant you see that he is trying to kill oil production. i live near the coast and work in the oil field industry and if he kills our dependence on oil so drastically it will destroy several cities along the Gulf coast.

your the PR person for BP arent you???

nope it was owned and run by 2 american companies and bp but obama hates britain so kindly forgot the american companies

the two american companies admited that there was safety cutting but the money coming in made them decide it was worth it greed outwieghs safety

        • P-90

Exactly, BP had nothing whatsoever to do with the spill, they should nut up and tell Obama and his administration to quielty go fuck themselves.

        • Kent

          No, no.

First off, Transocean that Brits keep saying is American is actually based in Switzerland.

Secondly, BP had complete operational sovereignty over the Deep Horizon rig. They called the shots, in fact the morning of the explosion the BP manager argued with the Transocean manager and told him that BP was the "alpha and omega" of the operation, forcing them to do something that they didn't want to do.

Managerial decisions by BP are what caused the disaster, repeated disregard for safety for the purpose of saving time and money.

Quit desperately trying to divert attention from BP for its horrible fuck up. It's pretty pathetic how incapable Brits are of accepting criticism. So they just lie and distort the whole thing.

      • FartFace

sounds like it. BP and everyone involved should go under for their sheer negligence and lack of a backup plan in case of a disaster.

    • Who cares?

Haters (stupid people), hate you LOLOLOLOL but i like you… you do your homework!😉

  • http://intensedebate.com/profiles/traveloracle Gandalf..

anycase they wouldnt have spent it otherwise…..;)

  • Tyrone Wallingham

Where are my TWO wolf shirts? I want them now!

  • MiPo_TheGoat

F*ck you BP!!!!!!! and all those involved……..Aside from the billions of $$ lost let's not forget the Sea/marine life lost and the ongoing cost it will take to repair the damage caused….Oh yea the 11 workers that died on that rig during the explosion(stepping off soapbox now)

    • Who cares?

You know that BP is not a guy… right? And perhaps the 11 workers are responsible for the explosion…

      You need to stay relax!

Wait, WAIT one minute, Is this one through thirteen they could have bought. OR. Could they buy each of the posts? CLARIFY Please

  • Kevin

Uncertain of the intent of post. BP needs to clean up the Gulf. But if it had not happened they owe no one anything. What is the point of the post, besides more dogmatic anti-biz propaganda?
