    This was a Hoax.

    • JayC

yep, the buyer actually knows the seller and it was all a practical joke

  • bryan

    lucky bastard

  • Jen

Wow, that news caster is trying to hide how drunk he is.

    • http://dinkus.blog.com Emzilla

      No joke, right?

Why would he tell that on TV?

  • myself

Why would the seller expect some money back, stupid. Always check safes or anything you sell.

    • Ned Plimpton

Exactly. Safes store valuables. Why wouldn't you check first? Guy deserves nothing.

  • Justin Prince

forget the seller. he made the mistake. as costly of a mistake as it is, he shouldn't get any money back

  • Cavall

If its life altering money, he should have known where it was in the first place.

  • metalcool36

    That's a damn good investment

  • Justen

    Lucky Memphis man

  • JerryLinGiant

i always love how on local news the interviews always get cut off mid sentence so their tone is confusing haha

  • realzoo

Seriously, what is the point in buying a (unique) safe and then having it cut open? Maybe the buyer recognized it from a time before?

    • newfie_chiver

i'd say its the new way to launder money. prob a drug dealer trying to make his illegal money legit. Buy a safe, cut it open and say there was $26,000 inside. Then you have $26,000 no questions asked on how you got it.

    • ger

You have to cut it open to replace the combo lock with a new lock since he didn't know the combination. Standard practice.

    • mike

might be that the seller said he was selling a safe to which he did NOT have the combo too, so this guy bought it and cut it open

  • etcrr

If it is real, It won't ever happen again, I am sure of that.

  • matador

"you could probably guess what happened next".. jackpot!

  • Brian

    Finders keepers losers wheepers

  • Iamjoking

wow, guy wasted $122 on that thing.

  • CaChing

    Is this another Chive hoax???

  • Mike

Damn that seller. I would have given half back, LIAR. Read your own policy and see how forgiving you are.

    • Ned Plimpton

He's from California. That right there guarantees he's a money grubbing asshole who would've done the same thing as the buyer.

  • Gort

probably part of DB Cooper's stash

  • GreatWhite

If it is true, the seller shouldn't get anything. He should have checked the safe before he sold it.

  • brer bear

    fair enough.

Glad to know this was a hoax. A stupid person would say something, I'd keep my mouth shut because it's not paying money to the seller I'd have to worry about – uncle sam would have half of the money.

  • Jenn

Def a hoax. Having a welder cut it open would heat up the inside and probably burn the money before it was done
