#43 Some of the Heroes of WWII were these women who Ferried Bombers and fighters across the country for the war effort
Thank You to the Women Pilots in the Military for the jobs you do. It is truly appreciated and a valued service to our country

My grandfather flew for both the British and the Americans during the war, and he once told a story about how he and his friends were at a local pub, and his friend started trying to impress a few ladies with some exaggeratedly tall tales about their flying escapades. The next morning they saw the same group of ladies in coveralls and flying gear walking out to a group of planes they were scheduled to fly up to some other airfield. Definitely changed ol' Grandpa's opinions on women.

One of those women was my Grandma. They did a lot more than that. They flew test flights, trained some of the male pilots and also towed aerial targets. Can you imagine that? Towing a target that people on the ground and in the air are shooting at? A few years ago their unit received the Congressional Gold Medal. For many years they didn't even get veterans benefits. The military didn't even pay to send the women that died in the line of duty back home, their fellow fly girls had to gather a collection to pay to have their friends sent home. They were an awesome bunch of girls.
